    March 2007

Late last year we installed irrigation on the entire garden. It’s heaven to get up in the morning to the sound of sprinklers making sure the plants are getting the water that they need.  Down here one thing is sure. You either get too much rain or not enough. Seldom do you get consistent moisture and that’s important to both bloom and plant growth. Daylilies are tough but they really appreciate regular water and now ours are getting it.

Early spring here saw major renovations to Ann’s playhouse. That’s where she does her gourd art and now she has good thermal windows that actually open.  She’s getting more natural light and anyone who works with colors knows how important that is. Hopefully it will also let her do her art in colder weather as well, without burning up too much propane!

For the many folks who enjoy coming by to see us when they’re on the island we have a bit of bad news. This is the last year we’ll be doing on site sales.  We’re moving to a web and mail order operation to give us more flexibility and cut down on costs… particularly insurance costs.  Most of what we’ve grossed is now going to the insurance man and we faced a choice… raise prices or change the way we do business.  We hope you’ll continue to call and drive by to see the bloom,  then order your daylilies on line or by mail!  After twelve years we’ll really  miss seeing  all of our regular customers.

                                                           Happy gardening!
